In 1968, Srila Prabhupada lacked the funds to publish the complete Bhagavad-Gita As It Is, so he initially printed the Introduction as a pamphlet. This is a reprint of that original pamphlet. The Introduction, found at the beginning of Bhagavad-Gita As It Is, serves as an ideal starting point for exploring the spiritual depths and truths revealed by Lord Krishna in the Gita. It provides a clear explanation of the nature of consciousness, the self, and the universe.
The Bhagavad-gita, meaning "the song of God," was spoken by Lord Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, to His dear friend and disciple Arjuna.
It imparts knowledge regarding five fundamental truths and the interrelation of these truths. The five truths presented in the text are:
- Krishna (or God)
- The individual soul
- The material world
- Action in this world
- Time
These truths are explored in the context of their connections to one another, providing a comprehensive understanding of existence and the nature of the universe.
