Format: Paperback
This work by His Divine Grace Srila Prabhupada, ISKCON Founder-Acarya, is a unique contribution, originally written in 1961 for the Congress for Cultivating the Human Spirit in Japan. Srila Prabhupada selected a single chapter from the Srimad-Bhagavatam, focusing on the autumn season in Vrindavan, to present the teachings in a way resonant with the Oriental audience, who appreciate nature’s symbolism. Through 48 verses and commentaries, he used autumn’s imagery to convey spiritual philosophy, comparing, for instance, the obscured stars on a cloudy night to the dimmed wisdom in a materialistic, godless age.
Although he could not attend the conference, the project, Light of the Bhagavata, was later completed by the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust, with paintings by Madame Li Yun Sheng from the Hong Kong branch. The book is divided into two parts: a color section featuring her detailed paintings alongside Srila Prabhupada's poetic descriptions, merging Indian and Chinese cultural elements, and a black-and-white section with Srila Prabhupada’s full commentaries for readers who wish to explore the philosophy in depth.
