'Laghu Bhagavtamrta' is a book by Gopiparanadhana Dasa, a well-known translator and commentator for BBT Sanskrit works.
The 'Laghu Bhagavatamṛta' is the shorter version of the popular 'Brhad Bhagavatamṛta', written by Sanatan Goswami, brother of Rupa Gosvami. Rupa Gosvami wanted to expand on the descriptions of different forms of Bhagavan (God) and His loving relationships with different groups of devotees found in the 'Brhad Bhagavatamṛta.'
Back when Rupa Goswami wrote this book in the 16th century, most Vaishnavas considered Lord Vishnu as the original form of God, seeing Lord Krishna as just one of His many avatars, although Krishna was the most beloved. But times have changed, and now there are very few people who believe in any kind of God, let alone God as a small, dark, flute-playing cowherd boy named Krishna. Rupa Goswami provides strong scriptural evidence to support the idea that Krishna is indeed the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
Since today's world is full of different kinds of atheism and impersonal beliefs, this book is really important for anyone looking for spiritual guidance, especially those who want to be devotees of Krishna.
The book is split into two parts:
- The first part introduces the reader to the different forms of Bhagavan and His avatars.
- The second part categorizes His devotees based on how devoted they are.
Gopiparanadhana Dasa translated and commented on the original text. After his passing, Giriraja Publishing's researchers completed the book's many appendices. Dr. Edwin Bryant wrote the foreword.
This book follows the BBT standard, including Sanskrit Devanagari, transliteration, English translation, and commentary by Gopiparanadhana Dasa. It also includes over a dozen color illustrations.
